Deepwater Horizon pollution incident - trading in the Gulf of Mexico
The reports from both news media and members suggest that navigation to and from ports in the Gulf may soon be affected by the oil spill.
Some of our members have contacted us to discuss the implications in relation to charter parties. The main focus has been on voyage charters and the possible impact on laytime/demurrage, as well as related delays in connection with entering and departing from ports in the area.

In an effort to serve our members more efficiently on these issues, we have designated four lawyers to address your concerns:

Egil André Berglund

Insofar as the developments in the Gulf are concerned, we note that a variety of internet links provide information about the incident on a running basis. The most informative link would appear to be the web  site operated by the Unified Command. (See link below).

We look forward to discussing your needs in relation to both existing and future charter parties.  Insofar as the latter are concerned, members should seek protective wording taking into account the risk of delay.
