In January 2007, Nordisk opened its Singapore office – Nordisk Legal Services Pte Ltd. – with the aim of improving our services to the significant number of members who have affiliated offices in South East Asia and the Far East, and in particular in Singapore.
From its opening in 2007 the office was manned by one lawyer from our Oslo office along with local secretarial staff. The idea was to start on a modest scale with a view to assess the actual demand for our services and provide an opportunity to become acquainted with the local working environment. It did not take long before we understood that the decision to establish a presence in Singapore was well justified, with the consequence that the office now employs three lawyers, two recruited from the Oslo office and one locally.
The general feedback from our members and clients in the region is that they regard us as their "in-house" lawyers - which in our view is the best praise we can receive. To a significant extent our presence has enabled our members to channel tasks and delegate decisions regarding dispute prevention and resolution to their affiliate offices in Singapore, rather than handling such matters at a distance from their respective headquarters in Scandinavia or elsewhere.
